Band Camp 2012 Dates Announced!

Band Camp will be held the week of July 30 - August 3. Please schedule vacations on another week to avoid conflicts! It is extremely difficult to catch up when students miss band camp!

Scrips will be collected on January 13 because the 15th falls on a Sunday this month!

Don't forget that Make-Up assignments for the Holiday parade or Holiday Concert are due by Friday, January 13. All SmartMusic practice records are also due by Friday, January 13.

Jazz Band begins again Monday, January 9! 6:00 - 7:30.

Music Boosters meet Tuesday, January 10 at 7:00 PM in the choir room.

Solo and Ensemble contest is quickly apporaching! Make sure you are working on your individual part so your group can have a great performance!

Additional Information for Wind Ensemble Next Week

The Wind Ensemble will have two performances next week. Permission slips went home Wednesday for a trip to Ford on Tuesday, December 20. Dress for the Ford trip is any band shirt/sweatshirt. (This is a change from what was originally posted). We will meet in the band room at 7:25 to load the buses for this trip. We will be back in time for 9th mod and will have lunch together before returning to class. Mrs. Patriok will provide pizza. Students should bring their own drink and may bring chips, cookies, etc. to share with the group. If any parents are available Tuesday morning and would like to come along to Ford, please email Mrs. Patriok. Please return permission slips by Friday of this week!
The following day, December 21 students will need to bring formal concert dress to school for our final performance before break. Students will be released from 7th mod classes to change for the performance and practice the set change with the orchestra.

Scale playing test deadline has been extended to next Wednesday at 2:30 PM. We will have some additional time to test when we return from Ford and can finish up 10th mod Wednesday as necessary!

Wind Ensemble Upcoming performances

The Wind Ensemble will have two performances next week. Permission slips are going home today for a trip to Ford on Tuesday, December 20. Dress for this concert will be Band shirts and khaki pants. The following day, December 21 students will need to bring formal concert dress to school for our final performance before break. Please return permission slips by Friday of this week!

Wind Ensemble members have a major scale playing test this week! All playing tests must be completed on SmartMusic by Friday afternoon. Students may come in before or after school or during study hall to complete the test. Students who have a SmartMusic subscription at home may test at home.

Scrip Orders will be turned in one more time before break and are due Thursday, December 15.

Sectional Schedule

Wednesday - Clarinets
Thursday - Horn/Sax

Wind Ensemble - Monday - Flutes
Wednesday - Clarinet/Alto Sax
Thursday - Low Brass/Low Reeds
Friday Trumpet/Horn
If there is no school on Monday, flutes will have sectionals on Wednesday with the Clarinet/Sax.
If there is no school on Friday, trumpet and horn will have sectionals with the Low Brass on Thursday.

All excused absences from sectionals will be made up on SmartMusic. (If you have a home subscription you can make it up at home!)

Thanks to all band students and parents for a great marching season! The band looked and sounded great - thanks for all your hard work! Last night's banquet was a nice close to the season - thanks to everyone who helped out and attended! Concert season is now getting started so watch for sectional schedules to be posted at the end of this week!

Jazz Band will start on Monday, November 14 and will run from 6:00 - 7:30 PM. There is still time to sign up if you are interested!

Wind Ensemble Honors Projects are due November 11. Get your in early if you are interested in Concert Posters or Program Notes!!

Scrips program is running again! Our first order is due November 15. Checks should be made out to FOMB. (Friends of Midpark Band.) Get going early on your trip account!

A few announcements for our last week of football season! This week's schedule for full band:

No extended school rehearsal this week - we will release at 2:25 every day.

Wednesday night rehearsal will be from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. We are losing light early now!

If you are wearing extra brown/orange on Friday and have face paint/colored hair spray, etc. it must be removed before the game on Friday.

Marching Band Banquet will be held next Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 PM. We will have dinner and awards voted on by students as well as a video/slide presentation. Families should bring a main dish for the family and we will have side dishes and desserts to share. Ninth and eleventh grade families should bring a side dish and tenth and twelfth grade families should bring a dessert. Drinks will be provided by the Music Boosters. We hope you can make it!

Make-Up Assignments Due October 28

Just a quick reminder that all performance make-up assignments must be completed by October 28. Written reminders will be going home with students today and you can also find reminders on infinite campus on the date of the missed preformance. Any excused absence not made up will become an unexcused absence and the student's grade will be dropped one letter grade for each unexcused performance grade. Make-Up assignment information can be found under marching or concert band tabs on the website.

Announcements Week 7

It's hard to believe we are in Week 7 of marching band season! A few announcements for this week (Homecoming)

Pass-Offs for the Motown show are due today before evening rehearsal. All students must make a valid attempt in order to have third quarter privileges this week.

Enjoy the City Books/Orders were due last week. All unsold books must be returned by Friday, October 7 or student accounts will be charged for the book.

If you are planning on wearing face paint or spray painting your hair for spirit day on Friday keep in mind that all paint/spray paint must be removed before reporting to band on Friday evening.

Patron Drive forms are still available under Forms on the website - Music Boosters is still accepting donations and volunteer forms.

Sign-Ups for Craft Show are posted in the Music Wing. Be sure to wear a band shirt and bring your instrument! We will need people to perform both days!

We are going to be looking for donated band pants at the end of this school year to try to avoid purchasing new pants for incoming freshmen next year since they will only be wearing those pants for one year! If you have old pants that you can donate or if you are a senior band member and would consider donating them, we would greatly appreciate the donation! If you have old pants that are not being used we can take the donation any time - thank you!

Changing Weather/Announcements

As we move in to October the weather is becoming more unpredictable - please make sure you are prepared for rain or cold at every rehearsal! You may want to keep your band raincoat in your band locker for a rainy day or make sure you have something in your school locker as a back up! The weather is also turning colder and I'm still seeing students in t-shirts and shorts on the field. We want to keep everyone healthy for our performances so please make sure you are prepared for the weather!!

Band Spectacular is coming up on Thursday, October 13. We still need a cover design and we have extended the ad deadline to next Wednesday, October 5. There are examples posted in the band room as well as online if you are interested in designing a cover or placing an ad to wish your section good luck! Forms are outside the office for ads if you need one and it is also posted on the Band Spectacular page on the website.

With October also comes early evening rehearsal - we lose the light early so we have to move the rehearsal up to 5:30 - 7:30. Please make sure your ride is at Midpark at 7:30 - we have some students being picked up a full half hour after rehearsal is over! Please make sure your ride is aware of our 7:30 ending time.

We start performing the Motown show next week! Pass-offs are due by Wednesday before rehearsal! Make sure you are ready to perform and work with your pass-off leader to set up a time to meet with them. We have been reminding you of this deadline for a few weeks! Make sure you don't procrastinate!

Fall Festival tonight!

Hi everyone! Don't forget - our Fall Festival performance will be tonight at the end of our rehearsal. Make sure you wear your band shirt for rehearsal! There is also a good chance for rain tonight - make sure you have rain gear for rehearsal as we need to be outside learning the new show unless it is storming!

Uniform Reminders

As we enter week five of marching season there are a few uniform infractions that come up frequently at each game - don't forget, if you have three uniform infractions built up you will lose third quarter privileges! Here are the things that are coming up most frequently:

Jewelry - one pair of small stud earrings in the bottom hole and a class ring are the only jewelry permitted in uniform. Facial piercings, necklaces, watches, bracelets, and rings that are not class rings are all things that should not be worn in uniform.

Socks - socks should be black and long (not ankle socks). This is so we do not see your leg as you are marching.

Nail Polish - only clear nail polish is permitted in uniform.

Cell phones should not be out in uniform except during third quarter (if you are not sitting in for third quarter) and on the bus.

Reminder that students are required to be in full uniform (minus the jacket, gloves, and hat) when getting on AND off the bus. This includes pants being zipped up and suspenders up. Color Guard should be in full uniform (minus gloves)getting on and off the bus.

Uniforms will be sent out for dry cleaning on Monday. Please check your pockets before hanging up your uniform on Friday to make sure you are not leaving anything behind! Color Guard members, bring a change of clothes on Friday evening so that you can leave your uniform for cleaning.

Rain!

Well everyone, it looks like we have a chance for rain this week, both for tonight's rehearsal and for Friday night's game! Just a few reminders as we encounter rain:

Be sure you have applied camp dry or a similar product to your raincoat and your garment bag. You will be thankful that you have done so after a night of rain!!

Be prepared for rain at rehearsal! We will be outside unless it is storming! Come prepared for rain and woodwinds bring cases out in case we need to pack them up.

After a night of rain, take care of your instrument! Wipe them down and leave your case open so they can dry. Woodwinds, if you get caught in rain clamp your keys closed so they pads will not swell as they dry.

Other announcements:

Handbook Forms are due by Friday, September 23. Be sure yours is turned in!! (These went home the first week of school with the Handbook Highlights). Full Handbook is available on the website.

Be on the look out for Ad information - coming soon to the Band Spectacular page. Parents, you can wish your student, section, or band good luck! (Examples will be posted)

Are you artistic? Design a program cover for the Band Spectacular - include the following information: 40th Annual Midpark Band Spectacular - October 13, 2011 7:00 PM - Finnie Stadium (Deadline for submission - September 23).

Thanks to everyone for another good performance last night! I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend without a Friday night football game! Just a couple of announcements before the long weekend:

The first Music Booster meeting of the year is next Tuesday, September 6 at 7:00 PM. Please join us! Music Booster meetings are held in the choir room and all parents are encouraged to attend! Come find out how you can get involved!

We are looking for a couple of underclass parents to help out with Senior night. We hold a reception after the game for senior band members and their parents. Please email Mrs. Patriok if you are able to help out! (Senior night is September 30)

Week One Reminders

With the start of school tomorrow I know everyone is busy and may need a few reminders as we prepare for our first game this week:

Pass-Offs for Halftime are due by 3:30 on Wednesday. This gives you an hour after rehearsal to finish up with any uncompleted pass-offs. Remember, if you have not attempted all Pass-Offs for Pre-Game and Halftime you will not have third quarter off on Friday!

Emergency Medical Forms and Uniform fees were due during Band Camp. If you still owe us those forms/$ you will not have third quarter off on Friday! If you are having financial difficulties you can sign a fee contract with Ms. Zunic and that will fill your requirement.

Games start at 7:00 PM this year! Please check the itinerary (on the website) for drop off and pick up times!

There is no Wednesday night rehearsal this week because of the start of the school year - but don't forget, we will rehearse until 3:00 on Thursday this week! It is crucial we have everyone for the entire rehearsal on Thursday!

Parents - are you able to help out by chaperoning on Friday? Just show up with the kids and we'd love to have you! (Please note, no younger siblings are permitted to ride the bus).

Make sure your rain coat is camp dried and your pants are hemmed for Friday's game!

T-Shirt orders are due on Friday - remember, checks only! (Parents, if you haven't seen the order form yet, ask your son/daughter to pick one up in the band room!

Midpark 50th Anniversary Bonfire Performance

We will be performing Friday night at the Midpark 50th Anniversary Bonfire - we will meet in the band room at 8:15 PM to warm-up and will perform on the baseball field from 8:45 - 9:00 PM. At 9:00 PM we will play the fight song and Alma Mater and students will be dismissed after the Alma Mater. At that time you are free to go or can stay for the bonfire. We will wear our band shirts and dark shorts/pants for this performance.

Band Camp next week!

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well and dealing with the heat this week! We're hoping that the heat wave will be over before we start camp next week, but here are a few reminders for camp:

We still need snacks for most days - students, I would plan on bringing a snack or two with you each day in case we don't get snacks provided each day.

Bring a water bottle with your name clearly marked on it. We will have water jugs to refill your bottle but will not be provided water bottles each day.

Wear light colored clothing and wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to keep the sun off of you as much as possible! We spend a lot of time outside and our practice field is black top, so it is VERY IMPORTANT that you wear sunscreen! Be prepared for rain as well - if it is not lightning we may still be outside marching!

Tennis shoes are required for all marching band rehearsals. Tennis shoes must tie and skater shoes are not acceptable!

Every band member will need a lyre for rehearsal every day. (Percussion will have their binders). Bring your lyre on the first day of band camp along with your instrument and all music sent in the summer packet - don't forget to bring your emergency medical card, too! We will have lyres for sale on the first day of camp for those that need them.

Parents, please email Mrs. Patriok if you can help wash raincoats, help with uniform fittings, or bring snacks to band camp - (most days are available!)

This Week: Officers meet Thursday from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM to prepare band camp packets and the music wing. Rookie Day is Friday from Noon - 3:00 PM. Officers and section leaders should plan on attending.

Rookie band members do not need to bring their instrument on Friday but should bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen! It will still be very hot on Friday so we will take a lot of breaks from the outside heat!

July Announcements!

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a great summer! I have just returned from Scotland and am back at school prepping for Band Camp!! A few announcements and information as we approach band camp:

We still need parents to help out with snacks each day of band camp - if you are available to provide snacks for about 95 please email Mrs. Patriok and let us know. We try to provide a morning and afternoon snack each day.

Raincoat help needed: We also need parent volunteers to wash raincoats - if you can help out, please stop by the band room (someone will be available whenever percussion or color guard rehearsals are going on)and next week during the day. You can pick up a bag of raincoats, wash them, hang dry and return before band camp - thanks for your help!

Feed the Band: We are looking for volunteers to help with feeding the bands at football games this season - we need people to get donations/purchase snacks for the bands and help organize parents to feed snacks to the bands during SWC games. (Home games beginning September 23).

Emergency Medical Cards - Please make sure you bring back your Emergency Medical Cards on the first day of rehearsal - Percussion and Color Guard, please bring yours back to your percussion or Guard Sectional rehearsals.

Calendar Reminders: Please check the online calendar for updated information on upcoming events! Officers, please note the Officer Work Day and Rookie Day information and attend those events. Section leaders will be notfied individually by email.

We have a lot going on in these last two weeks of school! A few things to remind you of this week:

1. Uniform Officer will be voted on 6/4 - have your letter up (in partners) before
9th mod.
2. Relay for Life Volunteer Performance is this weekend. Music Needed: Happy Birthday, Celebration, Star Spangled Banner, Long Train Runnin', Zoot Suit Riot, Cleveland Rocks. Plan on taking your marching instrument home on Friday afternoon. We will meet for rehearsal at the Brook Park Rec Center at 11:30 AM Saturday. We will be finished by 12:30 PM. Wear your Band Shirt.

3. New Officer Meeting - Monday 6/6 at 2:30 PM
4. Color Guard Meeting - Monday 6/6 at 3:30 PM
5. Senior Meeting (2012)Tuesday 6/7 at 1:00 PM
6. Percussion Auditions Wedensday 6/8 by appoinment beginning at 6:30 PM.
7. Summer Parade June 24 is a performance for the entire 2011 Marching Band. Itinerary will be posted online soon. This is a required performance. If you will be out of town for this performance please turn in your excused absence form by Tuesday, June 7 so we will know who we will be missing.
8. Fees/Missing Uniform Items - Bills went home several weeks ago to remind students of what was still owed. Missing Uniform items are listed on the stereo cabinet in the band room. Bills/Uniform items will be turned in to the Main Office on Monday if not returned.
9. Friday, June 10 is the Officer Work Day/Summer Mailing help day from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
10. There has been a change to the Football schedule for next fall - our week 2 game will be held on THURSDAY evening at Valley Forge. We will not have a Friday game that week. It is not a misprint on the calendar!
11. We will be ordering new band pants next week. If you have outgrown yours we need your current size before Tuesday! If you will be at the summer parade and need a new band shirt it will be paid for you by the board office. We will take orders next week. Please check your shirt and see if you need to replace it!

End of the Year Announcements

There is so much going on in the next few weeks! Please be sure that you are checking the calendar for summer dates/concert dates for next year are all posted! This week:

Officer elections this week and next - check the stereo cabinet doors for dates and information!

Friday - Wind Ensemble performs at the Tri-City Memorial Day Service 10:30 AM. All Wind Ensemble members should have their permission slips turned in by tomorrow! (Thursday!)

Monday - Memorial Day Parade - Itinerary posted on midparkband.com We will be turning in uniforms after the parade - all raincoats/senior sashes/hats/tux jackets should be turned in on Monday. Please be sure to eat breakfast before arriving for the parade and drink lots of water in the morning! Patriotic Parade Sequence should be memorized and we will also play Main Street America at the ceremony immediately following the parade. Parents, are you able to help with uniform collection? Please email Mrs. Patriok if you are able to help out after the parade!

Next week: We are in need of volunteers for inventory, music library help throughout the week. Sign up in the band room to volunteer. You can use volunteer hours for make-up assignments (4 hours) or honors projects.

Final Playing tests begin Tuesday - The order of testing is as follows:

Mrs. Patriok - Trombones, Horns, Oboe, Clarinets, Saxes, Euphoniums
Ms. Zunic - Trumpets, Flutes, Tuba, Bassoon

Please check the online calendar for summer dates including the Middleburg Heights Parade (June 24 for full band), Band Camp, and other rehearsal dates. Contest Week Reminders

Please check the itinerary (posted under concert band). We are in need of chaperones for both Friday night and Saturday. Please email Mrs. Patriok or Ms. Zunic if you are able to help out! Don't forget, we do not have regular sectionals this week - Wind Ensemble will be meeting Wednesday during sectional time and Symphonic Band will be meeting Thursday during sectional time. With OGT schedules this week it is crucial that everyone be at this one extended rehearsal! Make sure you have all your concert dress ready to go for this weekend. Ladies make sure you have black nylons if you have any skin showing on your legs or feet. Guys make sure you have a black bow tie!

Please spend some time on your own this week going over any parts that you are still not confident with - we want to put on our very best performance this weekend!! Reed players, make sure you have extra reeds and have been breaking a few in so you have some options for our performance.

Tentative Contest Times

Tentative Contest Times are as follows: Wind Ensemble - Friday, March 18 at 8:00 PM. Performance to be held at Strongsville High School in the Auditorium. Symphonic Band will perform at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 19 in the Gym at Strongsville High School. We will need chaperones for each band the day of contest and we also need help at Midpark for the Choir portion of Contest if you are able to help out! Please email Mrs. Patriok or Ms. Zunic if you are able to chaperone. We should have times confirmed by next Tuesday's Pre-Contest Concert. 7:00 PM concert time - 6:30 Warm-up. Full itineraries will be posted as soon as our times are confirmed.

Name Change

Music Booster Meeting Moved and other announcements

The Music Booster meeting that was originally scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4 has been moved to Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 PM in the choir room.

In other news, Ms. Holtshouse is now Mrs. Patriok! We will inform you as new email address etc. is in place. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and gifts at the Booster Meeting "shower" last month. It was so appreciated!

Please note that Wind Ensemble sectionals are canceled this week with the exception of percussion who will be meeting with their new percussion instructor, Mr. Talaba. Wind Ensemble percussion will meet from 2:30 - 3:15 and Symphonic Band from 3:15 - 4:00 PM.

Jazz Band will start next week, Monday, January 11 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.

Honors Band students need to turn in all projects by the end of next week (January 14). All Honors Band students must have two projects completed by the end of the quarter.

Don't forget - our Holiday Concert is Next Thursday, December 9 at 7:00 PM. The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will be performing. Alumni are invited to perform A Christmas Festival with the Wind Ensemble - just bring your instrument!

Honors Band Members - Assignment is due Tuesday, November 23 with Honors Band Projects for each specific expectation, along with the quarter they will be completed. (Honors Packet info was distributed two weeks ago.)

Extended Make-Up projects from Marching Band are due November 30. (Each student this involves was given a assignment sheet.)

Brook Park Holiday parade - check the itinerary on the website for details! We will wear raincoats in the parade if it is cold or rainy but only if EVERYONE has their raincoat!!! If your family is staying for the lighting ceremony, please send a note the day of the parade and plan on meeting us at the end of the parade route - (behind Kennedy Field). We cannot release your child unless you are there at the buses to pick them up.

Brook Park Holiday Parade

Don't forget - the Brook Park Holiday Parade is Sunday, November 28. The Itinerary is posted on the website now! If you will be out of town for the Holiday weekend and will not back in town for the parade please send in your excused absence form ASAP. Excused absence forms are due by Friday, November 19. We will be using music for the parade. All students should bring raincoats for this performance. If it is cold, we will wear them in the parade - but we can only do that if EVERYONE brings their raincoat!!!

Don't forget that sectionals are 25% of the quarter grade and excused absence forms need to be turned in one week in advance. Excused absences may be made up. (See your director to schedule a day or another make-up assignment.

Concert Dress - Reminder that concert dress is tuxes for boys and all black dress clothes for girls. Boys need to purchase black dress pants, a white tux shirt and a black bow tie. (American Commodore Tuxedo at Parmatown has the following prices available: Gently used tux shirts - $14.95, new tux shirts $25.00, bow tie $7.50 and if you need dress pants they have washable ones available for $39.00)

Ladies - you need to be in complete black - dress pants or a long black skirt (below the knees when sitting). If you wear a skirt that is not full length you need to wear black hose or tights. Dress shirt in black - ladies may also wear a full black dress.

Century Resources Fundraiser

Band shirts came in this week and we do have a few extras in stock for purchase if you missed our order. T-shirts are $7.00 and Sweatshirts are $18.00. See Ms. Holtshouse or Ms. Zunic for available sizes. We also still have baseball caps, skull caps, and drawstring orange bags for $7.00 each. These will be sold on a first come first serve basis. Checks should be made out to Midpark Band.

A quick reminder that all make-up assignments are due by next Friday, October 29. Any student with an excused absence (Excused absence form turned in either one month before a scheduled event, or immediately following an illness or emergency.) You can find the make-up assignments posted under Concert Band on the website.

Concert season starts in one week! Make sure your instrument is in good working order and you have plenty of reeds/valve oil. etc. We will be scheduling sectionals the first week of concert season and the sectional schedule will be posted as soon as it is available. Each student will attend one 45 minute sectional a week. These rehearsals are mandatory!

Jazz Band interest sign ups are posted in the music wing. Please indicate which sports you play so that we can schedule rehearsals!

Have you checked your concert band instrument out lately? Concert season starts in two weeks! You still have time to get your instrument to the shop for a tune up before concert season starts! Make sure you have reeds,valve oil, etc. so that you are prepared for concert season day 1.

Parent Help Needed

There are a couple of areas we will need additional parent help in the next few weeks:
First we need a couple of underclass parents to help with Senior Night. This would include ordering flowers and organizing a reception after the game for Seniors and their families. (Cake and punch.)

Next, we need help with Band Snacks - at home conference games we are required to feed a snack to visiting bands - if you are able to help, we need snacks for 9/17, 9/24 and 10/29.

Reminder that Enjoy the City books are on sale now through Septemebr 15. Order forms and books went home in the last couple of weeks. Orders can be taken on the envelope that the sample book came in. Checks should be made to Midpark Music Boosters.

Also, parents who are helping with chaperoning this year need to get fingerprinted at the board office. (These last for 5 years if you have already done it!)

Hi everyone! Just a quick note that we will have another bowling party after rehearsal next Wednesday, August 18 immediately after practice for 2 hours. Family and friends are invited to this event! Admission is $5.00 and will include 2 hours of cosmic bowling and shoes. Please RSVP by email to Ms. Zunic how many people will be attending.

Picture day is Monday! Remember to be at school by 4:15 so you can be dressed and lined up by 4:30 for the picture. Make sure you bring picture forms and money with you.

Pass-Offs are Monday for Pre-Game! We will wear our band Shirts for Meet the Meteors at 7:00 PM. People who are in sports will play with the band at 7:00 and then stay with their teams when the rest of the band leaves for rehearsal.

Please make sure you are practicing your music for the Summer show, Senior Show, and stand tunes! We need a lot of music ready for the teacher's Opening Day performance on August 23!

Emergency Medical Cards

It is very important that we have these on file as soon as possible. Rookie Day and Band Camp!

Once again, a few reminders about Rookie day and band Camp next week!

Please keep in mind that we rehearse on a black top field! You need to:

Eat breakfast before you come to camp!
Arrive so that you are on the field ready to go at 8:00 AM (Monday we will start in the auditorium at 8:00 AM)
Bring and apply sunscreen generously and often!
Wear light colored clothing and shorts! (Dark colors will attract the sun).
Wear a hat and sunglasses for outdoor rehearsals
Bring water labeled with your name. (We will have coolers available for you to refill)
Wear tennis shoes - low cut tennis shoes that tie (no slip-ons, loose fitting, or skateboard shoes)
Rookies do not need to bring instruments to Rookie Day on Friday.

Each day we will break from lunch from 12:00 - 1:00 PM. Thursday lunch will be provided for you. On other days you may choose to go home for lunch, out to lunch, or pack your lunch and stay at school.

Please remember - if you need to miss rehearsal for any reason you need to fill out an excused absence form and turn it in to the directors. You can find this form under "forms" on midparkband.com

Uniform Fittings:
Here is a quick reminder of uniform fitting schedule. Please bring your completed uniform accessories form along with payment to band camp on Monday (or you can bring it with you the night of your fitting). If you are having financial difficulties and cannot pay in full next week, please contact the directors to set up a payment plan.

Friday of next week will be "Meet the Band" night at 6:00 PM. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy a performance with everything we've learned at camp this year! Dinner will be provided for the band before the performance. Students should bring their band shirts to change into for the performance.

Another Calendar Change

Just a heads up everyone! Homecoming has been changed! Homecoming will now be September 24. (It was originally September 17). We still have room for a few more snack volunteers for the week of band camp. Please email Ms. Holtshouse if you can help!

A few other opportunities for parent involvement in the next couple of weeks: We need help with uniform fittings the week of band camp! If you sew we will need help hemming band pants - we also need parent help to fit uniforms, shoes, and pin pants for hemming, and money collection. Please email Ms. Holtshouse if you are able to help! (We will need help Monday - Thursday after band camp.)

If you have raincoats at home please plan on returning those before August 2! Thank you for helping with those!

Time Change for Parma Game

Please note: The first football game at Parma will be played at 7:00 PM! This is a change from the original time on the calendar. All other games will still be played at 7:30 PM.

One other important calendar change - the concert that was originally scheduled for Thursday, April 28 will now be on Wednesday, April 27. We needed to make the change because of the District Alumni Hall of Fame Dinner. Please make this change on your calendar.

Hello everyone!

I hope you're having a great summer! I'm back at school prepping for band camp and the new school year! We're looking forward to a great season and are looking forward to seeing you all soon!

A couple of reminders as camp approaches:
Please bring your emergency medical card with you on the first day of camp. (It was included in your summer mailing.) Make sure you eat breakfast each day before you come to camp and drink lots of water! Sunscreen is crucial as we practice on blacktop -bring a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.

We need parent volunteers to bring in Band Camp snacks - if you are willing to provided 110 snacks please email Ms. Holtshouse and let me know if there is a particular day you would like to provide snacks. We try to provide a small snack two times a day. These could be popsicles, cheese and crackers, chips, cookies, etc. Morning snack is at 10:15 and afternoon snack is at 3:00 PM. Snacks can be dropped off at the beginning of the day.

The website will be updated regularly now so please check for updates on the blog and on the calendar. Please remember that the hard copy calendar may have changes throughout the year - the online calendar is the most accurate calendar!

Officer Work Day is Thursday, July 29 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Rookie camp is Friday, July 30 from 12:00 - 3:00 PM (You do not need instruments this day)
Full Band Camp begins Monday, August 2 at 8:00 AM.
Rookie Parent Meeting - 6:00 PM Monday August 2.

Final Week Reminders

Well everyone, we're down to the last few days of school! Here are a few reminders to close out the school year.

Be sure that you have checked the missing items list in the band room to be sure that you have turned in all uniform parts. Remember, you needed to turn in the items you were assigned at the beginning of the school year!
Have you turned in all your fees for this year? Ms. Zunic passed out bills last month to remind you of what you owe.
Please pick up all school owned instruments, marching and concert and take them home for the summer. (A few of you still need to check in your concert instruments from this year!)
Make-Up assignments due Tuesday. Did you have an excused absence from a performance this quarter? Make sure your make-up assignment or service hours are completed by Tuesday.
Be sure that you have your marching instrument Monday and Tuesday for class and finals. We will be playing!
Friday, June 11 we will stuffing the summer mailing at 10:00 AM. Officers should plan on being in attendance and we can always use extra help if you're willing!
Check the online calendar for June rehearsal dates for percussion and new color guard members! Remember that the online calendar is always the most updated calendar of events!

Memorial Day Itinerary Posted!

This will be a busy weekend for everyone! Just a few reminders:

Wind Ensemble members need to turn in permission slips for Friday's Memorial Day performance at the Tri-City Memorial Day service! All permission slips should be in tomorrow! (Thursday)
Anyone missing the Memorial Day parade because you will be out of town must turn in the excused absence form before the parade to be excused. Make-up assignments can be found under Concert Band. Students may choose to do 4 hours of volunteer work to make up a performance or choose one of the options on the performance make-up page.
Have you missed any other performances this quarter? See above. All make-up assignments must be turned in by June 8. (June 2 for seniors).
All uniform items will be turned in after the Memorial Day Parade. Please be patient when picking up students - we will move as fast as we can collecting uniforms! We could use lots of parent help that day - please meet at the band room after the parade if you are available to help!
Seniors will turn in all instruments/locks/tuners/etc. on Monday as well. Seniors must have all items turned in or paid for before they can graduate!
Check out the Summer Lesson form on edline (soon to be on midparkband.com) and complete the form if interested - this is a great way to improve your skills over the summer and it is very affordable!
Don't forget - playing finals/auditions begin on Tuesday. You will have time in class to practice or do homework for other classes so make sure you are prepared when you come to class next week.

End of Year Announcements

The end of the school year is quickly approaching! Please keep checking the calendar for events and volunteer opportunities. We need a lot of help at the end of the year to wrap things up and prepare for the fall! Here are a few highlights of what's coming up:

Officer elections continue this week - we will vote for Historian on Wednesday, Librarian (2) on Thursday, and Uniform Officer (2) on Friday.
All Honors Band projects (Wind Ensemble) must be turned in by the day of Finals (June 8). Be sure that you know which projects you still need to complete and get those taken care of! (Please look on the online calendar for volunteer opportunities - remember 4 hours of end of the year volunteering = one Honors Project.
Memorial Day Events - Wind Ensemble will be bringing home permission slips tomorrow (Tuesday, May 18) for next week's Tri-City Memorial Day Ceremony. We will walk to the Middleburg Hts. Rec Center unless there is bad weather. Students will be excused from class 3rd mod - 8th mod. We will have pizza upon our return - please bring your own chips/cookies to share and your own beverage.
The Brook Park memorial Day Parade will be held on May 31 at 10:00 AM. The Marching band will meet at 8:55 AM for this event. A reminder that we collect all school owned uniform parts at the end of the parade so please plan on a little extra time after the parade for uniform collection. The Itinerary will be posted later this week.
Parents who are willing to help with uniform collection should email Ms. Holtshouse - thanks in advance for your help!
Playing Finals/Audition Music will be distributed Tuesday - please check the online calendar for Advanced Etude help sessions.

End of the Year Information

Things are starting to ramp up for all of our end of the year preparations including auditions for Color Guard, Drum Major, Percussion, and Concert Band Placement! Keep checking the calendar for updates so that you are informed! Officer elections will also be starting soon - be thinking about the leadership roles you would like to fill next year and run for office!

The Jazz Band schedule for next week will be as follows- we will rehearse at our regular Monday time - 6:00 - 7:00. Then on Thursday we will be performing for the Hall of Fame Dinner. We will need to arrive at 6:15 and we will be finished by 7:00. We will wear all black for this performance and this will be our last Jazz event of the year. Please notify me immediately if you cannot attend on Thursday - I have to have a group there and may need to find emergency fill-ins for people who cannot attend. Thanks!

Next year's calendar has been added to the online calendar if you need to check any summer dates. This is still a work in progress so many dates are not set in stone!

We've Been Upgraded to a higher end hotel!

Hello! I just got a call from our travel company and the hotel has been overbooked and they are upgrading our group to a nicer hotel across the parking lot from our original hotel. I will be emailing the details and posting them to the website when I have the details, but they have agreed to upgrade any of our family members who also booked at the Beuna Vista Hotel! If you are not traveling with our group but booked a room at our hotel, please email me and I will arrange to have your hotel upgraded. Please email me the name that the reservation was under and the number of rooms ASAP. Thanks!

Disney Reminders

The Disney trip is only a few days away! Here are a few reminders before we leave on the trip!

Our next rehearsal is Wednesday, March 24 during sectional time from 2:30 - 3:15 PM. Any member who has not attended rehearsal may not march with the group at Epcot. (If you are not marching you will be assigned to a chaperone while the other band members are performing the parade and workshop.)
Music must be memorized by the Wednesday rehearsal!
All packet forms are due by Thursday evening. (Permission, medical, etc.) - Remember that there will be a notary available at Midpark Thursday evening if you have not had your Medical Form Notarized yet.
Remember that all medication must be turned in with the Berea City Schools forms (with a doctor's signature.) Medication may be left at the clinic any time this week or turned in Thursday evening. Remember, this includes over the counter medication! (All medication must be in it's original container.
Any movies going along on the trip must be labeled with your name and Bus # and turned in Thursday evening for approval.
Pack a lunch for our trip on Friday! Remember that all drinks must be screw caps and no energy drinks are permitted!
Don't forget to find a buddy to share garment bags with for the trip. Put all uniform parts in on Thursday evening so that it is ready to go Friday morning.

WInd Ensemble to perform for Fox 8 News

The Midpark Wind Ensemble will be performing for Fox 8 News tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM in the auditorium. We will be wearing concert dress for this performance. Students will be released from class after 2nd mod to change and report to the auditorium for warm-up and tuning. We will be finished by 10:15. Don't forget to bring concert dress! You will be able to change back into your regular school clothes after the performance. Mr. Kish selected us to be a featured group this year and I know we will represent Midpark well! Medication Needed on the trip: If you have medication you need to take on the trip, you will need to have a doctor sign the Medication form available from the clinic and Ms. Holtshouse. Please see Ms. Holtshouse this week if you need one of these forms.

Bus sign ups are this week! Stop by the Band Room to sign up for your seat on the bus!

Announcements Week of 2/16/10

Wind Ensemble Members: Reminder that University of Akron permission slips and meal orders are due by Friday. (Look under Wind Ensemble on the main page of the website if you do not have your copy at home.) The itinerary is posted there as well. Remember that you will need to bring your concert black clothes in your garment bag to school on Monday. Parents are invited to attend the 7:00 concert and can take students home straight from the concert with a note. There is no admission for the concert.

Wing Night is this Saturday, February 20 at the Front Row Bar and Grill from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. Please note that this is an adult event only. (More information under Support the Band). Please note that advance tickets are being sold at a discounted rate of $18.00.

Pre-Contest Concert is next Tuesday, Feb. 23. The Band portion of the concert will begin at 7:30. Warm-up will begin at 7:00 PM in the Band Room/Choir Room. The choir portion of the concert will begin at 7:00 PM. We are hosting the Choral portion of the Large Group Contest at Midpark. We will have sign-up sheets for workers at the Pre-Contest Concert. Please help if you can!

Large Group Contest will be held at Strongsville High School this year.
Tentative Contest Times: Wind Ensemble - Friday, March 5 - 5:05 PM in the Auditorium
Symphonic Band - Saturday, March 6 - 9:00 AM in the Gymnasium.

Final Disney Payment Information

Attention all students and parents going on the Disney trip! The final payment on our original payment schedule was 1/8/10. Many of you are paid in full - thank you! If you still have a balance, it MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY FEB. 9!! The tour company is no longer accepting payments and all further payments should be sent to school and made out to Midpark High School. All accounting has been completed and if you are unsure of your final payment please contact Ms. Zunic through email (kzunic@berea.k12.oh.us). We will not be sending individual bills home with students.

We are required to lock in our final numbers on Monday, January 25. If for any reason you think you will not be able to pay the final balance by Feb. 9 let us know through a phone call or email before 3:00 PM on Monday, January 25. A reminder that the refund deadline has passed and you will not receive any refund on funds already paid.

Disney Announcements and Deadlines

Our Disney Trip is quickly approaching! Don't forget that your trip must be paid IN FULL by February 9, 2010! All fundraising money will be sent to the company by the end of this week so final bills will be distributed next week. (Adults, please remember that your fees are different from students - please refer to your initial payment plan for specifics.)

Room assignments begin tomorrow! Emails went out through edline today with instructions and I will include them here as well. Student rooms are primarily rooms of 6. (The rooms are suites.) Please talk to your friends and decide who will be in your room. Assign one person to be the room leader. This person will be responsible for signing up all students in the room. Any questions/problems will be referred to that person.

Senior room leaders may sign up Wednesday before school. Juniors may sign up Wednesday after school. Sophomores Thursday before school and Freshmen Thursday after school. Students not signed up for a room by Thursday after school will be assigned to a room.

December Announcements

Thanks to everyone for two great holiday performances, both at the Holiday parade and at our concert! Just a few reminders as we head into the Winter Break:

Pep Band began this week - this is a student run group supervised at the games by Mr. Mack. Students may use pep band for volunteer hours or as an Honors Band project. (Students should attend at least 4 Pep Band performances to earn one Honors Credit.) The Pep Band schedule has been updated on the online calendar so you can check the website for dates and times.

Solo and Ensemble forms and money are due by January 7. Solo fees are $14.00 and each ensemble is $19.00 (to be split among the ensemble members). All checks should be made out to Midpark Music Boosters. Application forms can be found outside the band office.

Wind Ensemble families - make sure you have added our University of Akron performance to your calendar! This will be an all day event on Monday, February 22. (More information to follow in the new year.)

Disney payments: You should now have a minimum of $480 in your trip account at this time! As a group we are responsible for having 2/3 of the trip paid for by now. If you have kept up with the payment schedule you should actually have $590.00 in your account. If you are behind, please try to send even small amounts weekly to get caught up - we have to have the entire trip paid by February 9! (Some fundraising funds are still in the process of being transfered at this time.)

A few reminders about the upcoming weeks:

Be sure to check the calendar on the website for sectional dates/times for both bands. Jazz Band starts Monday, November 23 and will run from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. We are in need of a piano player if anyone is interested!

Take advantage of the SCRIP program when shopping for the Holidays! Remember, there is a very long list of gift cards available at face value and students can then receive funds into their student accounts! Each card has a different donation value (check under Support the Band for more info).

The Itinerary for the Brook Park Holiday Parade is posted. If you are going to be out of town for the Holiday and will not be able to participate, don't forget to fill out the excused absence form and turn it in before break! If you are planning on staying for the lighting ceremony after the parade please send a note and meet us at the buses at the end of the parade route to pick up your child. Don't forget: the Season's Greetings music should be memorized for the parade!

Fundraising Opportunities

Hello everyone! Just a quick reminder about current Fundraising opportunities! The Music Booster Fruit sale has been extended one week so the due date is now Nov. 17! Profits from the fruit sale are split between the band and student accounts. (50/50). A reminder that individual fundraising goes to the group that you participate in, not the general booster account! So every order of fruit band members sell benefit the band directly! (Checks to Midpark Music Boosters)

The other fundraiser currently running is the Century Resources Fundraiser. Orders and money are due by November 16. (Checks to Midpark Band.) 100% of the profits from this fundraiser go into your student accounts!

Don't forget - your next Disney payment is due by Nov. 13! ($130.00 for students). Make sure you are current with your payments to CCIS. Please contact Ms. Zunic with any account questions.

A few calendar changes to be aware of as we wind down marching season:

No Wednesday night rehearsal this week or next! We do not have any new material to learn so our daytime rehearsals will be enough for cleaning! Thanks for your hard work this season that made this possible!

The Band Banquet can also be removed from your calendar. In order to save funds we will not be holding this event. It has been removed from the online calendar, but please remove it from your hard copy.

Make-Up assignments: Please be aware that any make-up work for excused absences (from performances) must be completed by October 30. Please look under Concert Band (Performance Make-Up for a copy of the make-up assignment.

Thank you to all parents and students who volunteered their time last week - whether it was for the Craft Show, the Football Game, Senior Night, or the Band Spectacular, we appreciate you giving your spare time to be with us! Band members had a great performance at Band Spectacular and thanks to all of you who performed at the Craft Show. You did an outstanding job!

As we look forward to Concert Season, make sure your concert instrument is in good working order and ready to go. We will be assigning Sectional times and signing up for Jazz Band the first week of Concert Season.

Band Spectacular and Senior Night This Week!

Don't forget: Wednesday rehearsal is from 5:30 - 7:30 PM and we will start on the field behind the tennis courts. Please do your part and make sure you have the Styx show solidly memorized so you can contribute on the field! We are the host Band on Thursday and we want our performance to be among the strongest of the evening! Help us have a great performance by having a focused rehearsal today and tomorrow.

Over the next few days it is going to be cold and wet! Please dress accordingly for outdoor rehearsal and for sitting in the stands! Report times for Thursday and Friday - doors will be open at 5:15 both days. We will do a run-through of the Senior show at 5:40 Friday before we leave for the game.

Seniors: Make sure you turn in your paperwork on Thursday for Senior night. (Who is escorting you and how many people will come to the reception after the game?) Reminder to all Seniors and their families to plan on meeting in the choir room for a short reception and to watch the video of your senior show! Underclassmen should have their rides at the high school by 10:45 PM on Friday.

Craft show this weekend! If you are working, please wear a band shirt so people know which group you are a part of! Also, bring your instrument! We will be putting ensembles together throughout the day Saturday and Sunday. (don't worry, we'll help you put something together!)

Don't forget! Wednesday evening rehearsal moves to 5:30 - 7:30 PM this week! Make sure you are on the field in attendance block by 5:30! (And please make sure your ride is there to pick you up at 7:30!)

Senior Night is next week! Seniors, please pick up a letter from Ms. Holtshouse and turn in the bottom portion with your escort(s) names and how many people will be attending the reception after the game.

We also need a couple parent volunteers to handle the reception after the game on October 16. Please email Ms. Holtshouse if you are willing to help out!

Pass-Offs this week: We still have a few people who need to pass-off Pre-Game this week! Everyone needs to improve on the Styx Show (unless you already had a 90% or better.) Next week will be Come Sail Away.

8th Grade night is this week! Please note the itinerary is posted and is a little earlier so that we can run through the show with the 8th graders before the game. We will have Pizza during 3rd Qtr. this week!

Don't forget - the Craft Show is coming soon! Sign up to volunteer and remember to bring your instrument! We will put groups together to go from place to place and play in small ensembles.

It's almost October! Hard to believe, but we're half way through marching season! This week will be busy as always, but here are a few reminders for this week:

8th Grade Night rehearsal is this week! Our 8th Grade Band members will be with us from 6:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday night so we will only have one hour to ourselves for rehearsal! Please make sure you feel comfortable with 8th grade night music before Wednesday. (Born to Be Wild, Uptown Girl, and Freeze Frame.) Buddy lists will be posted Wednesday.

Enjoy the City Books Pick up Wednesday night after rehearsal! Please plan on taking your order with you from rehearsal Wednesday night.

Next week begins 5:30 - 7:30 PM evening rehearsals - don't forget!!

Pass-Offs this week: All students are required to have Pre-Game passed off 90% or above this week. You also need to try the Styx show again this week if you did not pass it all off last week.

Feed the Band: This week begins out home stand with conference bands. We are required to provide a snack each week for both bands. We will be asking each band member to donate cookies/snack items for one game. The schedule will be as follows.

Hello everyone! We have a lot going on this week! Fall Festival and a new show Friday Night! Thanks for your hard work at rehearsals! Here are a few reminders for the week:

Pass-Offs for the entire Styx show must be completed this week- and don't forget, if you still have pre-game to pass off, you need to try again this week! A reminder to students who run pass-offs - you must have results written down and turned in by 3:00 PM Friday afternoon.
The recording of AD/Rockin' the Paradise is under Marching Band on the website. If you are struggling with the music, listen to the recording - it will help you get a feel for the music!
Fall Festival is Wednesday night! Remember to wear your band shirt for rehearsal!
We will be selling old Comp Show shirts at a clearance price at the Fall Festival! We will also have some extras of the Midpark Band shirts available. We can take any last minute shirt orders for this year through tomorrow night! (Parents, there is now a Midpark Band Parent Polo shirt available!)
If you still owe fees for candy (yes, from last spring!), uniforms, or Enjoy the City Books, please turn those in ASAP.
We are working on student account statements for each student going on the Orlando Trip. This will help you gage where you are as far as fundraising. Please remember that not every fundraiser over the past few years went directly to student accounts.
Have you registered with the tour company and made two payments to them? There are a number of people who have not yet registered with he company. A reminder that the forms are on the Members Only page.

Friday Reminders

Hi everyone! A few notes about Friday, September 18.

The band room will open at 5:30 PM - announcemnents at 5:50, load the buses at 5:55. We will perform pre-game with the Brecksville Band - don't forget, as you march down the field you will go to the left of the row directly in front of you!

Please have your ride at Midpark at 10:50 PM to pick you up! Remember, you should not need to call your ride when we get back to school!

A few deadlines to remember:
Enjoy the City orders and books were due last Friday. Any remaining unsold books must be returned by Friday or your student account will be charged.

(Wind Ensemble Only) The list for Honors Band was out today - emails will be sent out on Friday with the requirements. If you decide to take Wind Ensemble for a 5.0 A, please email me back by Wednesday of next week so that I can confirm the list with counselors.

Grand Illusion/Renegade needs to be passed off now! You can still get it in tomorrow after school, but Ms. Zunic needs to have all pass off lists before we arrive for the game tomorrow night! Lady and AD/Rockin the Paradise will be passed off next week. (Remember, the Styx show will be performed next week - be prepared!

Handbook Return Forms were due last Friday! Get them in ASAP! Remember, you can read the handbook online (under members only) and then return the form to us!

Don't forget: Any time you need to miss rehearsal or a performance we need to have an excused absence form on file!

Band Shirt orders and money are due tomorrow! There is one new Band design and a new Polo available for band parents! Checks should be made out to Midpark Band.

The next Disney Payment is due Sept. 12! Remember, all payments go directly to CCIS (you should have sent a registration form in with your second payment. Paperwork is still available under Members Only.)
Scrips are due the 1st and the 15th of each month. Order forms are available under Support the Band on the website or in the band room (on the stereo cabinets). Remember, we sell the gift cards at face value and 70% of the profits go into your student account!
Wing Night is Saturday! Sept. 12 (check the last blog entry for more info!)
New shirt order forms are available now! Do you need Midpark Band spiritwear? Order forms are available outside the band office (and will soon be online under Support the Band). All orders and money are due by Friday, September 18.
Pass-Offs for the Styx show are next week. Plan ahead! If you play a sport, make sure you plan a time with your section leader to play your pass-offs! All Pass-offs must be attempted by Thursday after rehearsal. (Friday attempts will only count for grades!) Styx show pieces include Grand Illusion/Renegade, Lady, and AD/Rockin the Paradise.
Handbook Forms are due Friday! In an effort to conserve paper, Handbooks were not printed this year - Handbook Return forms are outside the office! Please be sure that you download the Handbook off the Members Only page and return the handbook form by Friday, 9/11!
Enjoy the City book sale runs through 9/14. Please return all forms and money by that date. $5.00 per book goes into your student account!

Wing Night

Don't forget, our first Wing Night of the year is next Saturday, September 12 at the Front Row Bar and Grill on Snow Rd. The event will run from 6:00-9:00 PM and will include all you can eat food and beverage for the $20.00 admission price. Sponsored by the Friends of Midpark Band. All proceeds benefit the band, so come out and have a great time! (Adult event.) Ohio State will be battling USC, and we will also have sideboards and raffles! Tickets are available from Tom and Maureen Rensel or Bill and Julie Leibold. Would you like to help out with the event? We always need help selling sideboards and collecting money at the door. Invite your friends - we hope to see you there! Thank you for your support!

We've just been informed that we can get Enjoy the City books for Akron/Canton as well our local area. If you would like to see a list of Akron merchants, please email Karelyn Holub @ mak725@sbcglobal.net and she will send you a list. If you would like to order an Akron book, please mark it CLEARLY on the order form.

Mrs. Holub will be at rehearsal Wednesday night for people to pick up books. Only 40 band students have picked up books! Remember, $5.00 from each book go into student accounts, and if you sell 5 books you get a 6th free that you can sell for pure profit!

Announcements - Week of 9/1/09

Reminder that rehearsals run until 3:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
This week is catch-up week on Pass-Offs! Do you have all of Pre-Game and the Swing show passed off?
Make sure you have all your materials in class everyday! Remember, three infractions of not having drill, music, or tennis shoes will require you to stay in the stands during third quarter Friday night!
Enjoy the City Books are being sold now! If you haven't picked up a book yet, see a director after rehearsal! We are taking orders through Sept. 14. ($5.00 per book goes into student accounts.)
Are you caught up on your Disney payment? The second payment should have paid by August 15! If you still need the registration form, check the website under Members Only for the information.

Enjoy the City Fundraiser has begun!

Did you pick up your Enjoy the City Book last night at rehearsal? They will be available for pick up again on Wednesday evening. Remember, you will receive one book now and take orders for additional books. You will only return the single book if you do not sell any books. Each book sold will give students $5.00 in their student accounts. The remainder of the profits will go directly to the band to help cover expenses.

Other reminders:
Percussion Drum Cleaning Day on Saturday has been canceled.
Color Guard Members who have paid for their practice flag may pick them up before or after rehearsal Wednesday night. (Please plan on arriving by 5:30 if you would like to pick it up before rehearsal.
Our first Wing Night of the year will be held Saturday, September 12 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Front Row Bar and Grill on Snow Road. Tickets are $20.oo and can be purchased from the Rensels, the Leibolds, or in the band office.

Keep working on memorization! Remember that the Pre-Game music needs to be passed off this week and half-time needs to be passed off next week! We've finished the show, now it's time to clean things up so we can have a great first performance next week!!

We're back online! We apologize or the few days that the website was down - but now we're back and can keep you updated!

Thanks for a great week at band camp! We had great weather, and you all worked so hard and we saw great results because of it. Rehearsals continued to go well this week and we should have our first show learned by Monday! Great work!

A special thanks to Mrs. Guinn for setting up our bowling event this week! Everyone who attended had a great time and we raised $850.00 for the band!!

A few reminders about upcoming events:

Monday, August 17 - Percussion Sectionals 2:00 - 5:00 PM, Full Band Rehearsal 6:00-8:30 PM.
Also, make sure your second payment for Disney has been sent - remember that you should have sent the registration form and your payment directly to the tour company. (These forms were included in the summer mailing, or you can find them online under members only.)

Wednesday, August 19-Full Band 6:00 - 8:30 PM. We will be playing at Meet the Meteors during rehearsal - band members who play sports should plan on attending the first hour of rehearsal, play with us t the beginning of Meet the Meteors and then stay with your team. (This rehearsal will be on the grass field behind the building.)

Saturday, August 22 - Drum Cleaning Day @ Midpark -10:00 AM All Percussion members are required to attend.

Pass-Offs start next week! The week of August 17 will be Pre-Game (Into the Future, Alma Mater, Star Spangled Banner, Fight Song). Week of August 24 - Midpark Swings! (Big Noise, Jump, Live, and Wail, and In The Mood). Band Members who are conducting pass-offs, please arrange a time each week that you will be listening to pass-offs.

Do you have a place to keep your drill books? A large folder or three ring binder is a great way to keep all your charts in one place so that they are easy to find. Remember, you will need these charts all season and you are responsible for having them with you at every rehearsal!

Parents, don't forget to turn in the Booster Patron and Volunteer Information Forms that were included in the summer mailing (these can also be found under forms on the website). Let us know where your talents are and where you are willing to help!

Band Camp Reminders

A few things to remember as we start camp this week!

Eat Breakfast before coming to camp each day!
Apply sunscreen each day before you arrive and bring more to reapply throughout the day!
Bring a water bottle with your name on it to refill throughout the day.
You may want to bring a snack each day - at this point we only have a few snacks provided throughout the week. (parents, if you are willing to provide a snack for the band, please email Ms. Holtshouse your availability.)
We still need parents to help with uniform fitting Monday - Thursday evenings after camp. If you are available and willing to help, please plan on arriving at Midpark at 4:45 PM for assignments. (Please note, you do not need to be able to sew to help!)
We will need parent volunteers to hem pants after they are pined.
Please be patient on uniform fitting evenings! Remember that the parents helping out are volunteers! All uniform fees should be turned in by the uniform fitting evening. If you have some financial issues that prevent you from paying in full, please notify Ms. Holtshouse and we will work out a payment plan for you.
New members: There is a parent meeting Monday evening at 6:00 PM in the auditorium for all new member parents.
Meet the Band! will be held Friday evening, August 7 at 6:00 PM. Bring your family and friends, your lawn chairs, and see everything we've learned at camp! Students will be provided with dinner before the performance and should wear dark shorts and their band shirt for the performance.

Scrip Orders Due Friday!

Don't forget that we will be placing another SCRIP order this week - order forms can be found on the Support the Band page on the website. Orders can be left in Ms. Holtshouse's mailbox at Midpark or mailed to the school. Checks should be made to Friends of Midpark Band. Remember, 80% of the profit from the gift cards goes into individual student accounts!

There are still spots available for Band Camp Snacks and Uniform Fitting volunteer help if you are available next week!

Get that instrument out and make sure everything is in working order! Do you have a lyre for your music? Now is the time to restock on reeds, valve oil, or other supplies before Band Camp next week!

Countdown to Fall!

I hope you are all enjoying your summer! Please review your summer packet and calendar to make sure you are prepared! We are closing in on Band Camp so I wanted to remind you of a few items and upcoming dates:

Band Camp is August 3 - 7 from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day. Band Camp is Mandatory! Remember, we will be learning Pre-Game and our first halftime show at camp! You will have an hour for lunch from Noon - 1:00 PM each day. Don’t forget SUNSCREEN!!!
Scrip Fundraiser orders are also due this week! Make sure your order is in Ms. Holtshouse or Ms. Zunic’s mailbox by Friday, July 31. We will be back on track with SCRIP orders being turned in each month on the 1st and 15th.
Have you completed your trip payment information and sent it in to the tour company? This enrollment paperwork was sent home in the summer mailing. (You can also find it on the Members Only page of the website.)
As Band Camp approaches, check your instrument and make sure it is working order! You still have time to take it to the shop for repair before camp! You should also start looking at the music for the Swing Show - Jump, Jive, and Wail, In the Mood, and Big Noise from Winnetka. This will be our first show and you can help us by learning the music BEFORE you come to camp!

Band Camp Snacks

Parents, we need volunteers to provide Band Camp snacks each day at 10:15 AM and 2:45 PM. Examples of past snacks include cookies, popsicles, cheese and crackers, chips, etc. If you are willing to provide a snack please email Ms. Holtshouse and indicate any preference as to date or time. Snacks can either be sent with your student in the morning or brought in at the snack time. Thanks for your help!!

If you donated a snack last year for Band Camp and are missing a blue cooler, we have it in the Band Room!!

Trip Enrollment Forms for CCIS

In the Summer Mailing you should have found a Welcome Letter and Enrollment form from the Tour Company we are using for our Orlando Trip. If you have not already done so, please complete that Enrollment Form and send it CCIS. You will need to complete one form for each person in the family going on the trip. (This form is also available on the Members Only page of the website if you need to print it again.) Don’t forget that the next trip payment is due on August 15!

Other Reminders:

We will need parent help each night of Band Camp for Uniform fittings. We will be pinning pants for hemming, sizing students for shoes, and distributing jackets and raincoats. Please email Ms. Holtshouse if you are available to help Monday - Thursday evenings.
